Monsterpunk is an open-world life simulation action RPG. You play as a monster in a world gone wrong. You must forage, hunt, and grow food, use the bathroom, grow to more advanced forms, defeat or escape the evil Monster Tamer, and flirt with your enemies.

Can you keep your composure in the quaking footsteps of objecthead dinosaurs? Will you grow into a proud and peaceful behemoth, or degrade into a ferocious war machine? Can you locate the nearest public restroom?

If these are questions you have asked yourself, Monsterpunk is for YOU!

Features:

  • Open world!
  • 25 playable monsters!
  • Multiple endings!
  • Bad graphics!
  • Branching monster growth based on your playstyle and self care!
  • Eating!
  • Pooping!
  • Farming!
  • Combat with weirdly gratuitous bloodshed!
  • Flirting!
  • Medicine!
  • Vending machines!
  • The color pink!

It was originally made in seven days  for the Monster Mash 2014 game jam before I worked on a fuller version on-and-off from 2014-2019. While it is technically unfinished (mid-game content is missing and there are unfixed bugs), it is otherwise fully playable from start to finish. I gave it a whirl and thought to myself, "huh, this is pretty fun, actually!" and have finally decided to release it (mostly) as-is in 2025.

I want to give a blanket disclaimer that I was a different person when I started this game nearly 11 years ago and don't stand by every creative decision I made in it, but... here it is! Finally! Monsterpunk! A decade later!

You can find the original jam version of the game, Toilets Meat and Drugs, here, but it is bad.

i completed my playthrough! it took around 3 hours total i think and i loved every second of it

i know some stuff was cut from the late game, but at no point of my playthrough did stuff feel rushed or missing. the bugs i encountered were very minor and non-blocking.

the npcs are all pretty and unhinged, and i loved talking to all the weirdos here. i like the off-handed way the story and some of the tips on mechanics are delivered in the dialogue.

the growth system and the fact that there is multiple routes to completing the game add replayability - i can imagine clearing this again in some time and trying to go for a different growth progression and ending.

honestly, this was an all-round joyful romp, thanks for sharing this!
