I'd say that this is the most polished entry I've played so far. Every part of the game feels finished, and there's a high attention to detail.
The combat is consistently great in this one. Even though I've never played your other works, the variety of inspirations are carried into an RPG format in creative ways that give the combat a ton of flavour while also being amusing.
Each character has a strong voice that presumably reflects the tone of their game, though I can imagine that I didn't get the full effect since I'm not familiar with their games. The fact that you have five characters and only allow me to use four makes me want to revisit this one after trying some of the others. But not until after playing the rest of the Game Jam games, there's already enough on my plate. hehe
The non-fictional meta-story is insightful. As somebody who's on the other side of the gamedev fence, having made exactly one game for this jam, hearing the thoughts and feelings of someone who has spent longer in this space will shape how I think about it going forwards.
So I haven't finished this one yet but already i find the Violence! to be snappy and satisfying, the writing is fun and unique, and I have acquired multiple Twelve Logs. Based on my experience with certified banger Danger Zone Friends I'm not surprised this one is a banger too. My favorite thing so far has been reading the blog excerpts. All of the above only makes me more interested in checking out this game's predecessors and getting to know these characters better in addition to finishing up this one.
Nicely done, one of my favorites of the jam. My favorite traditional RPG entry for sure. The movement, dialogue and combat all feel nice and snappy. The attack animations and sound effects go a long way towards making the RM2k3 combat not suck (Moby Dick's attack is maybe my favorite thing in the whole jam.) Love the original art, the jokes, going on little quests and recruiting characters. Will definitely check out your other work
Aaaah, thank you so much! I have been waiting for weeks for someone to mention Moby Dick's attack animation, so I'm glad you liked it.I've been hearing good things about Hero's Last Hurrah in the Discord; I need to prioritize that one
I haven't played any of the previous games, but this was still a blast! Very fun dialogue and it was just as mechanically tight as it needed to be. I'm also a bit of a sucker for metanarratives like this, eheh. It makes the game feel very personal.
I hope it didn't end up being a chore to make in the end, because I very much enjoyed playing it.
At first I thought all of the signs around the map with blog posts that the characters thought were just "gibberish" was super funny, but it honestly wrapped up into being a pretty compelling little meta-narrative about making little projects for game jams. Really enjoyed playing this!!
This was delightful, even though I haven't played your past works that are referenced. The hand-drawn sprites are cute, and the whole conceit really tickled me. There are a lot of feelings about game development and personal growth packed into this game that I was able to relate to and connect with my own experiences. The difficulty curve kept me engaged and the last boss was quite tense. Lovely game.
Thank you for playing and for the kind words! As hinted by the fictional me, the autobiographical parts weren't even added until about halfway through development, so I'm glad that those parts resonated!

Thank you again! And I definitely started to have proper fun making the game during the final week
